James D. Reeds
MS, CPCM, CFPIM, CIRM, C.P.M.
As the President of Learning Solutions International. he has been responsible for the design and development on online, Distance Learning programs in Supply Chain Management and Project Management. Current program development is focused on Program curricular content development for two US universities, as well as design and delivery of a career development program for supply management professionals in the Shanghai Region of China.
Jim served on the staff of the Program Office, Global Strategic Sourcing, with AT&T, during the merger between AT&T, BellSouth and Cingular Wireless.
Jim has been the Project Director for the Supply Chain Management Institute, University of San Diego, San Diego, California. He has been instrumental in guiding corporate supply chain organizations in work-centered process improvement projects, with a documented total cost savings of over $ 69.MM in the first year. The resultant 5-year projected corporate cost savings for teams from such firms as Raytheon, Agilent, Shell Oil, Southern California Edison, and Boeing is an estimated $139.MM. The program course and project design integrates a learning foundation of the Project Management Institute’s Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).
Mr. Reeds has served in supply management leadership roles, as well as a Cross-functional Project Manager, responsible for purchasing for five manufacturing sites in North America. He has extensive experience as a strategic supply chain management consultant, specializing in World Class Supply Management, Contract Management, Manufacturing, Logistics and Operations Management. Mr. Reeds has been responsible for ERP System specification, source selection, and implementation as well as manufacturing education of plant work forces in multiple US plant locations.
Mr. Reeds has been an Adjunct Professor, University of San Diego, San Diego, California. He was involved in educational course design and delivery and Adult Learning research for USD's Supply Chain Management Distance Learning Programs.
Mr. Reeds has been a Research Associate at Henley Management College, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, England. His research area focuses upon Project-Centered Action Learning in a Distance Learning Environment.
Mr. Reeds holds a B.A. In Political Science (Southeast Asian Affairs) from the University of Bridgeport, and an M.S. in Procurement and Contract Management from Saint Mary's College of California in Moraga.
Mr. Reeds is a frequent writer and speaker on manufacturing and procurement topics, and has delivered papers at international conferences of APICS, NAPM, the Society of Logistics Engineers, and the World Congresses of Production and Inventory Management in Amsterdam the Netherlands, Auckland, New Zealand, Sydney Australia, and Cape Town, South Africa.
Mr. Reeds has mentored two Raytheon Project Teams as Project Director, and helped present two papers at the 2004 World Congress of the National Contract Management Association (NCMA in Orlando, Florida. April 2004): “Development of a Professional Certification Program Across an Internal Supply Chain: A Case Study” and “A Case Study of The Raytheon Six Sigma with Suppliers Project and an article on “Raytheon Six Sigma With Suppliers” in the Summer 2004 issue of Contract Management Journal. At the April 2005 World Congress of the National Contract Management Association in Phoenix, Arizona, he lead two project teams from the University of San Diego in presenting their research ["Supply Base Optimization" and "Establishing Trust in the Supply Chain."]
